Noises in the Night

Battousai had finished his training for the night and Jyn was in control of the host body, as such, he was lost in his thoughts with his arms folded behind his head and looking up to the night sky that spanned out over him. It was up to him to work on getting more civilians into the village and he had taken on the task of creating the city plans. At first, he thought it was a casual thing that he could do with his pad and pencil, but as the city grew, so did the amount of work he had to do; it was something that caught him off guard and by surprise at first that made him wonder how big Battousai should make the village. He thought that making it as large as Mare Maris would come with its own set of problems, but too small wouldn’t be good either. “Hmm...” he ponders to himself as he walks through the tall grasses of the plains south of the village. His gaze lowers and he sees the large stone walls that surround the city; they were only about ten feet high, which was easily scalable, but it kept the wild animals out of the village. “I’m going to have to see about getting that wall taller…” Jyn thought, figuring Kautuka would probably want something that an ‘enemy’ couldn’t climb, though Jun’Jo hopefully would never have enemies. As he was lollygagging, he came to the remembrance that Lightning was probably either waiting on him to come home and eat, or would be on her way out here to come and get him for taking too long. “Crap,” he would come out of the clouds and look back towards the city to begin to run towards it. Before he does that, he hears a cry in the distance. “Eh?” he turns in the direction opposite of the village. It sounded like a woman yelling or something to that nature, but it was brief and shrill. With a frown, Jyn figures, “I’d better check it out…” With a sigh, he says, “I hope Light doesn’t get mad that I’m late…” before he begins jogging to the south where he had heard the cry.

The village guards would turn to see Lightning walking out of the gates and greet her knowing her among the VIPs of the village. After their greetings they would look forwards as they continue to hold their post, but only with a slight glance at her rear as she comes in front of them, as guys normally would do. Their gazes would lift up to one another and meet as one gives a grin and the other nods in a ‘I’d tap that’ manner, before they are interrupted by the scream that catches Lightning’s attention. “What was that…” one would say, since the noise was loud enough to rear the gates. It seemed as if Lightning was going to investigate, so one gatekeeper looks to the other and speaks to the other, “I’ll go with her to check it out; you stay here.” The other gatekeepers nods and informs, “…remember the village lord is out there as well.” The first guard speaks, “it may be nothing. I’ll give a fire signal if help is needed.” Either way, since she would move faster than either of the two guards, chances were Light would be gone before the guard got moving.

Jyn would now dash through the tall grasses of the flat lands on his way towards where he thought he heard the sound. Not hearing anything afterwards, he pauses after running for a length of time and looks around; there was nothing. Calling out in the night, he speaks, “hello…?” At first, there is silence, but then a voice comes, more distant than the first as it speaks to him, “this way… help me please…” Jyn’s gaze immediately shifts to the west where he thought he heard the sound and he calls out, “hold on!” With that, he would be running a bit more.

Nothing would hinder Lightning’s investigation into the fields. If she were to proceed south, she would be able to notice a patch of earthy ground in the fields that looked like it was recently. The broken ground would be an indicator of an area where Battousai have been practicing a few minutes ago. From there, she should be able to hear Jyn’s voice as he calls out the ‘hello’ though the ‘help me’ wouldn’t be audible to her. From his voice, it would seem as if Jyn was about fifty or so yards from her current position.

Hearing something in the distance, Jyn would pause for a moment, swearing that he had just heard Lightning. He looks around in the quiet of the night and call out a “Light?” wondering if she had come to check on him. Suddenly, he hears another cry to his side, and turns to look in that direction. Beyond the grass on that side, he is able to see an area of short grass where a woman was lying on the ground. Her clothing was tattered and torn and it looked like she had been beaten and maybe raped. “Oh shit…” Jyn would move towards her quickly to see that she that her arms were tied behind her back. Because he was focusing on her, he didn’t pay mind to the large shadow that was in the distance behind her. Coming to a crouch next to her, he would place one hand on her shoulder and ask, “are you okay?” It was then that he would notice that something looked off about the woman and she seemed more like a magical mannequins than a human. The woman’s hands turn out not to be tied as she reaches around Jyn with the ropes that were on her wrists also wrapping about Jyn, binding him in place. Struggling to get free while speaking, “lady, I have a woman…” Jyn finds himself hoisted up and into the air as the woman’s body glows, illuminating the surroundings. The large shadow that was behind her turns out to be a very large amphibian looking creature with jagged teeth and a large mouth. It was basically an angler land serpent; the woman was the bait and Jyn was now caught in its hook. The creature uses its long extension to pull Jyn towards its large mouth. “Oh shit… not good!” Jyn would say as he finds himself unable to move.

The loud noise would resound in the air as the flash of light strikes the creature that was holding Jyn. It would give a roar as its hook is retreated back to the main body, which would now be visible rearing back and stumbling. During this process, the grip on Jyn would loosen and he would fall free from the ‘woman’s grasp, already having channeled the spell he was going to use. Just before he reaches the ground, his body vanishes in a shimmer of light and he appears crouch, on the ground having teleported a few feet back and away from the beast. Looking behind him he would see that his honey had arrived and then back before him he would see an angered land creature. “It’s not what it looked like,” he would explain. Suddenly, the large creature would ‘bounce’ up and then land on the ground, sending a wave of exploding earth towards Jyn and beyond him to Lightning. Diving to the side, Jyn would roll out of the way before he comes to the conclusion, “we can’t let something like this be so close to the village… we’re going to have to take it out…” Of course, Lightning was probably already a step ahead of him, but still, it sounded like the type of thing that needed to be said. Already having had a taste of Lightning gun, the creature would glow and an eerie green aura would surround its body as it seemed ready to fight.

Jyn didn’t put too much stock in the green glow that covered the beast, but he did peg it for some type of defensive spell. “The only way to tell is to punch it…” he would resolve as he sets his stance and picks his target. His body crouches and then he dashes to the side moving in a semi circle around the creature not wanting to dash towards its mouth. It didn’t have many target areas to hit, but he figured its side was the safest bet. The creature would pick up his movements and the spikes from its back would elongate and shoot down at him. Moving at an abnormal speed, Jyn would dodge between the spikes that impaled the ground with small bursts around him. “Punch one!” Jyn would draw his fist back and strike it into the side of the creature… or so he thought. On striking the creature’s barrier, the area he hit would glow as it absorbs some of the damage, but then exerts a strong force of energy that pushes Jyn back, causing him to slide away a few feet.

Jyn would slide back with a “whoa” after being knocked back. Looking up, he would notice the spike tentacles coming for him like before. His body would flip back with his hands coming to the ground and then he would press off and repeat this two move rimes in distancing himself from the creature until he flips into a standing position and lifts his guard. Channeling his energy he would cross his arms in front of him and speak, “tate!” With that, he would project a circular shield of light embroidered with angel wings that would block the incoming strikes from the impaling tendrils causing the areas o the shield to glow where they hit.

The distraction seemed to work as there is a reaction of strain from the monster as its shield glows under being hit by Odin’s blade and Lightning’s spark. The shield would now be compromised and shatter around the creature as its attention would be brought to the other two who were attacking it. Hawking a big loogie, it spits a large web of mucus and saliva towards Lightning. The wad would cover an area of about twenty five feet or so and would be wet and sticky enough to slow down her movements to a certain degree. As for the sword wielding Odin, the creature would release a foul odor from its rear that would cause small but reoccurring amounts of damage to be inflicted to those who inhaled it in. This green gas would spread out from the creature for about ten to fifteen feet.
