This is a board to discuss suggestions for the site. It seems like we needed one, so as not to clutter up the Q&A board...

Post suggestions for Shin to review and discuss them.

Suggestion #2: Have some sort of Site Canon/State of the Realm thread that provides people with guidelines of how life goes in the realms. For now, only Terra Regnum seems to require this as the other two realms are currently rather dormant.

I dont think they are dormant, i think they are going off of Isolationist policies. Remember the old ways with the heavens, the only way to come to earth was to get kicked out.

Suggestion : Unit experience system that allows them to use racial techniques.

#2. The Endurance package is only applicable to physical techniques.
Physical Package gets Affinity + Endurance
Magical package gets Affinity.

there really is no reason for magic to not have something since getting a spell off is much more difficult than throwing a punch.

@ jenn - bout the army sectioning.
i'm going to think on this a lil more.
i think for now i want to make a template that puts this in a separate section
you think that'd work?

@ ash - bout the SL
that's a valid argument that your SL should get higher as you get stronger
i'll look into that and put it on my list of things to look into

@ kyro/rek/penny - that was a c/p error. i'll fix it

I was working out some stamina for a tech and I noticed that the stamina calculator; http://dor.net63.net/sta_cal.html is still using the old system of reductions instead of the new system of reduction from the END tech.

My bad, here it is.

On the Wall of Effects, Stg 1 END is -- however when you use the stamina calculator, I put in 1 Stg 1 Effect, Perfected and Stg 1 END You get 5.8500000000000005, with out the 1 in the Stg of END you get 6.5, because it is still calculating in Stg 1 END as 10% reduction.

With the new system for END, the 10% reduction does not start until Stg 2 END.

Question for your next update,

You had mentioned lightly the addition of AP boosting to the SL calculator. What about the experience that you dump into free chanting?

Quote :
The chant should be spell specific and created at the same time the magical technique is created.

Considering most people during rp just use " I chant this". Rather than create the long drawn out chant. I'd think it would be better if the " created at the same time the magical tech is" part is removed. Making techs is sometimes a mind numbing process in itself. No need to neccisarily make it worse.

^ I disagree with this since it seems that a spell should have a chant associated with it, and not just something made up on the fly. This prevents people from using conversation as chants, such as:

"I'm going to the STORE"
-blast-

I think in the concept of magic, it makes more sense to have the chant as the birth point of a spell. It's not like there's a large number of techniques that one needs to create; if you're getting tired while making techs, then perhaps you're making too many.

Approving techs is a mind numbing process in itself; making it easier seems like it promotes more batch type work.

I agree with Jyn. A technique is learned with a chant, not just randomly on the fly.
It isnt like you say "I'm cooking spaghetti" - fireball goes off- You say a chant that calls the magical power to that spell.

** I'm not saying a spell can't have a chant, what I'm saying is that adding it to the creation process is pointless since many people prior to this simply stated during spell casting. " X chants". Done and dusted. Doesn't mean the spell doesn't have a unique chant, just means that you don't have to hear it or muck up with stuff about it =/

I think in the concept of magic, it makes more sense to have the chant as the birth point of a spell. It's not like there's a large number of techniques that one needs to create; if you're getting tired while making techs, then perhaps you're making too many.
** Again, not the point of the suggestion. Techs should have chants. Just making up an ACTUAL individual one during creation when you probably aren't going to use the chant in actual RP seems relatively pointless.

Approving techs is a mind numbing process in itself; making it easier seems like it promotes more batch type work.
** Or makes it easier to do

Am I the only one who has a ton of really simple, diverse techniques? I believe it comes down to character design and development on an individual basis. It could also be part of how you RP your character. There could be a mage who happens to be a cook, so all of his spells are recipe's.

I feel like the reason we have them made this way is so that you can't randomly pull techniques in for no reason. Without a set chant, I would be able to pull in a lightning bolt at the beginning of a conversation, middle of a conversation, and at the end of a conversation based off of the counts, when not a single piece of it had anything to do with the technique at hand.

As I understand the way they work, gun deal flat damage as specified on the site but can be utilized for easy crits. I’ve been thinking of something since I got my first gun technique with Jyn, then thought about it a bit more when Rekoa dabbled in gun techniques, rethought about it when Penny got his sniper rifle and now that I’m shooting someone, I’m thinking on it more. You only actually need 1 DMG technique at perfected to shoot a weapon perfectly at stage 1. That bothers me slightly. I’ll use Penny as an example.

Penny is on a rooftop, he takes out his sniper rifle and sees Shin who is minding his own business, maybe talking to some people or on his cell phone and then fires a shot to Shin’s head. Next comes Shin’s post. Since Shin has the OOC desire to not die like that, he has to come up with a way to justify not dying. So, he hears the sniper rifle being fired and moves accordingly out the way, much like JFK should have. It seems simple, you hear a gunshot, and you move out the way, right? Smh.

The question comes, should Penny be able to get up on a roof and snipe someone with pin point accuracy if his shooting tech is at perfected? Sure. Should he be able to do it after a week of posting with his sniper rifle? Probably not. The TL:DR version is as follow:

Use stages to depict how skilled you are with a weapon at a certain range (unless their range is limited by the site like shot guns) and limit techs to one gun per categories (i.e. rifles, pistols, shot guns, etc) so that you can’t use your one ‘gun skill’ for Pistols and Rifles.

The ranges are already specified by the site: Melee, W Melee, S Proj, H Proj, LR Proj and SLR Proj
Thus, their range requirements with accuracy based on the tech with the DMG tag would be as follows
Melee (STG1), W Melee (STG2), S Proj (STG3), H Proj (STG4), LR Proj (STG5) and SLR Proj (STG6)
Or just as simply, this can be added to the SYL tag perhaps more easily.

So what happens if someone with Pistol SYL1 at Perfected tries to shoot SLR Proj range? He rolls Novice for it. This will differentiate between gun specialists and guy with a guy.

Also, Proton Cannon needs a speed specified on the tech page.

Whilst I do agree about the " pick up and go shoot" point, I don't agree with the adding accuracy levels to stages. At least if I'm reading it properly it essentially cripples all long range weapons till later levels. Reducing people who, might use a crossbow/bow/other long range weapon char who might have a history of training in their weapon. At that point you'd be as well forgoing LRW entirely for magic which has similar properties just replacing the need to buy ammunition for a channeling time. Which may, or may not be a more acceptable trade and wouldn't come with the requirement for accuracy.( I'd say speed of proj change as well, although with certain weapons magic exceeds or matches proj speed)

Though again, I can't totally disagree with the point. Though the mention of the shotgun does bring an idea to mind. Though I'm going to think it over a bit first before I post it up. Feel free to poke me on msn for brain storm or discussion.
