Crash!

Suffice to say that Belmont was not much one for subtle actions. He had went to the city guard with the information that he had gotten from Maya and as it turned out, they were quite aware of this place. Child slavery, servitude. Orphans. It was all quite an easy and good business in Mare Maris. Most disguised it as orphanages even receiving some benefit staples from the government. Belmont had been quite outraged by it and had demanded the location of the place. Oh if only Kitsume could see him now, riding on the throes of his passion and rage. Belmont had made his way there taken one glance at the dragon statue and then had hammered down the door. Belmont’s speciality was a shock trooping. Taking out the enemy with a mix of surprise speed and power. And there wasn’t much more of a surprise than knocking down the door of a building and storming inside sword withdrawn. Oddly however, things were quiet here. This made him think at first that perhaps he had the wrong building. But that’s when his sense of smell. And more worryingly. Grave senses kicked in. There was the smell of blood in the air. A smell of rotting. His grave senses began to pick up on the use of magic. And on the presence of angry spirits.

Belmont trod through carefully sword drawn out in front of him. He didn’t call Maya’s name. If there were enemies here then calling out her name would give them the idea that she had brought this, and she would be punished, or even killed for it. Leaving it as just some kind of raid only put him in danger. Which was precisely the way he preferred it. Once he had killed these monsters. He would make his way into finding Maya.

There was a reason this place smelled like death. And it wasn’t just the killings that had been happening as punishments. Days ago, A creature had entered this city under the guise of a pilgrim. A creature who had only hunger in its mind, hunger and survival. This creature had found this place which had stunk of desperation. And had entered of his own accord. Using that very same illusionary magic to make himself appear as a child. After all. What could be more helpless than a child? They had taken the creature in, a changeling. It had thought that perhaps in some way the children knew. This place seemed to be filled to the brim with other children some of which had magical potential. Others were just simply barren of it. Jack found it curious. When they’d found him and taken him in, they’d sensed his magical power and been overwhelmed. Perhaps the idea of having that dulled their senses of danger. It didn’t with the children. . They looked excited. He didn’t talk after all. And they stayed away from him. He watched, watched and waited until the first one had pulled the knife on him. At that stage, he struck out. His teeth breaking through the soft flesh and muscle of the first one, painting the walls. His magic turned on the others. And before long it became a feast. An hour after he had started eating, the door had crashed in. Jack kept silent. Wondering just what had happened, if one of these men had escaped his grasp. It would seem so. There was a reason he had infiltrated as he had. It was an easier way of feeding without attracting attention from the men in metal skins. From the feathered ones. Devour those who would not be noticed missing. First these humans, the hybrids. And then the children.

The children were all huddled upstairs in the various holding pens. There was something downstairs. Something ugly and evil and all they could do was wait for their fate to be decided. In order to get out of the third story, they would have to go past the feeding demon child. And they were afraid it would attack them as well. Their only solace was the one who had survived this place the longest without breaking, and she was downstairs in the solitary rooms.

Maya looked up from her position on the table. She was chained down and waking up slowly. They had been torturing her again, sucking her strength and magic for their own uses. She had found Belmont and he was coming for her. For them. Then she heard the crash of the door and she weakly smiled. She was alone in the basement, in the dark. But she knew that he would come to save her. She closed her eyes, blood coating her wrists where the cuffs from the chains cut into her tender young flesh. Her ankles were the same. Weakly she let herself fall back into that trance and project herself into the first floor. There she saw the demon that had killed the adults of this place and started eating them. It only a took a moment before she shook her head. "There are a lot of demon hunters in this city. Please do not attack the children upstairs. Your hunger should be sated at the moment from all these adults. The other demons have fled in fear of you, so you must be powerful. Please, just leave the rest of us alone."

Those green eyes pierced right through Jack as she continued to walk past him. The trail of power behind her. Such a small body for such power. It was almost like a beacon to him that said, 'Dont fuck with me.' She went to the stairs and waited for Belmont to make it through the foyer and front rooms to get to the massive winding staircase. She sat at the foot of the stairs, blood coating her wrists and ankles. This showing of her was in a torn white, blood stained shift.

Belmont stopped dead in his tracks, there was something here that was beyond the means of just men. He could feel with his grave senses the touch fo demons. Hybrids. There wasn’t enough taint here for there to be a full blooded demon, at least within the ten feed of him as he moved. This if nothing else was the proof to the word of the Remnants that hybrids were just as bas as the spirits that fathered or in some disgusting cases, mothered them. It was a dark thing, something that had did not wish to think about just yet, but it would be in his report after he finished here.

He stepped in and looked to his left, it was a sight of horror and gore. There was a staircase leading down the way, the walls painted in all manner of insides. Both human and inhuman alike. On the stairs there was a twinge of movement. This was followed by his grave senses. He moved in and down, it was a terrible sight. It was a hybrid who appeared to be missing his legs below the knees. Bones snapped and harsh jutting out of the stumps that remained. Clearly. Someone or something had gotten here before him. Belmont grabbed a fist full of the hybrids hair and yanked upwards. “ What happened here?...tell me and I’ll give you a quick death”. The abomination looked up, its eyes already glazed, barely alive as things were. “...Basement....girl...demon...”. With the words demon, Belmont was brought fully to attention. Maya was a priority here, but his duty as a Remnant came first. If there was a demon here then it needed to be slain. That was as simple as it got. He headed down those stairs and then reached an old oaken door. When he got to the edge of it. His grave senses started going off the charts. Something was behind this door. And it was insanely powerful. Taking a deep breath the dead man steeled himself. And walked inside.

Jack turned to look at the astral projection of the girl, it was interesting to say the leas that one this young was capable of using such levels of spiritual magic. But Jack at this stage didn’t much care, this astral projection was attempting to dictate to Jack what he could eat and what he could not eat. Whilst it was true that the adults in this place had him filled enough, he would not be told what he could devour and what he could not. What she was right about however was that there were many men with steel skin in this city. Jack looked at her and shook his head. She thought that he was like these people. That he was what she called “ demon”. Jack knew he was no such thing. The blood that was in his veins, the heart that was in his chest told him he was something far greater than this word could be possible of putting across.

He turned his head sharply. The ground spoke to him once again. Someone was moving on the other side of the building, descending downwards into the basement. It was likely the one that had caused the door to crash in the first place. He wondered just what this person was headed down into the basement for. He turned back to the girl. He shifted his magic, the illusion would break. The transfixion of the magics power would change him from the appearance of the young boy, to his true humanoid form swathed in darkness. Draconian.

“ Your kind has not yet seen mine fleshy thing...”.

With that. Jack marched towards the basement stairs.

The astral form of Maya watched the Demon getting riled up. At least he was heading down to the basement, where she was located and not the upper levels where the rest of the children were currently hiding. The Projection disappeared as soon as the demonic dragon disappeared from view, down the dark steps of the basement. Towards the terror of the torture room. Her own weak body laying stretch on the steel table, blood dripping onto the floor, her white dress stained with it. Her wrists were raw and bleeding as they had many times struggled against these same straps that held her to the table. Her small body was too lean, to small for her age. The malnutrition coming into play.

The projection appeared in front of the children while the two males were down in the basement. "I have led the demon child away. Please, hurry. Run away. Go hide. Keep together, and wait for me near the city. I promise it will be alright." The children took this time to escape the demon downstairs running out the front door while everything else was going on down in the basement. They were free. The projection disappeared as the body waited for the two males. She only hoped that Belmont would get to her first.

Belmont pushed open the door to the inner basement, whatever was inside seemed to be suing a powerful kind of magic. It was like a thick fog in front of his eyes. He had to cancel his grave senses for now to clear his vision, when he did he was shocked to see what he saw. It was Maya. Slightly different from her astral projection. Yet it was her, unmistakable. He rushed over wondering just what was going on. There was a creature in here somewhere that had killed the hybrids and mages. Did Maya summon it to protect herself? It seemed unlikely that a girl bound like this could perform a summoning ritual without the proper ingredients. And without the proper spell preparation. So was it all just a case of extreme coincidence. The dead mans eyes darted around the room like a would animal checking his surroundings for danger before moving in to help Maya.

When he was satisfied that he was safe he moved in, stabbing his sword into the ground using grave marker. The swords rose up from the ground, avoiding Maya and Belmont. On his own he didn’t have the strength to cut or snap the chains. But with grave marker the force at which the swords moved up would be enough to free Maya. His original plan now seemed to have flown out the window. Face the demon kill the demon then free Maya and leave. Now that he had Maya in tow however it would be too dangerous to face the beast without leaving her somewhere safe.

“ Maya...can you walk?...Something vile walks these corridors...”.

As he stalked away from the strange ghost like projection of the girl he moved towards where the soil told him there was more power. There was more meat. This one was heavier against the oil which indicated that for Jack he would be a much better meal. However it might have also indicated that he was going to be more of fight to overcome. He didn’t much mind. There was not anything in this city that would be able to stand a chance against Jack at full power should he decide to show it. They would be blown away like autumn leaves in a strong wind. His footsteps could be heard as he approached the corridor that led to the basement. Slowly descending down the stairs. Belmont and Maya were now trapped unless of course Maya knew another way out of the basement that didn’t involve going directly through the demonic lord.

He too reached the door and began to sense something that felt like magic. His draconian hand pushing open the door just in time to see Belmont free Maya from her chains. The man was indeed large. Built like a bull. A very tasty bull. Whilst he was quite sure that it would be impossible to eat him all at once particularly when he had already eaten quite a few of the inhabitants in here. He would probably be able to save some of the flesh for later. It would indeed be a tasty little morsel. He licked his lips and marched forwards.

Maya was so weak, she didn't move when he used his sword technique to break the bonds. Only her eyes opened and she took a shuttering breath. She was all skin and bones, and with the way the shift was falling against her skin, he could easily count the number of ribs on each side. Like ill feed puppy, she had been slowly starved until that lush brown hair had ceased curling and hung limp and damp and she looked like a skeleton. Her bones were brittle and very easily broken with the starvation. Her once striking green eyes were hallow looking and sunken. She heaved and was able to get up and slip from the table. Standing there on wobbly legs, she looked up to him and those livid green orbs were filled with torturous knowledge that no child should ever experience.

Her voice was rough and scratchy from a throat that was sore and ill used, "A dragon demon, Belmont. Took the shape of a child, and entered here. killed everything. He's coming down..." The door opened and she let her words die off. She showed no fear, she had already seen hell, and experienced it here in this place for three years. Also her trust in Belmont winning or at least getting them out of here, was enough to keep her from panicking. So she looked at the demon and back to Belmont. "Nevermind, he's here"

“ Dragon...Demon?”.

There was a tinge of confusion and doubt to Belmonts voice. Perhaps she was delirious. She did look malnourished and the wounds of torture on her body were apparent. The lack of fear in her voice though as she described the demon and the situation that had end up to it though kind of indicated that whatever marks were on her body at this time were far less than the marks upon her soul and mind. It didn’t much matter at this point however, once he got her out of here he would do his best to try and fulfil the promise that he had made before. But to do that. First they’d have to survive. The moment that she spojke the words that the demon was here. His grave senses flared up. It was worse than it had been with Maya, this time his vision seemed to fire up. Literal fire. To Belmont it looked as if the room was suddenly filled with a blazing inferno that was the spiritual presence of this demon.

Belmont stood back, he didn’t know what to think, she was right about the dragon like appearance of this demon, but he didn’t know just what he was seeing. He’d seen the thick and heavy spirit presence of demons before. But this was unlike anything he’d ever encountred. Nothing had caused the grave senses to react so...violently. Before. But once again he steeled himself. Looking back at his charge. “ Run Maya”. With that. The dead man rushed forward attempting to tackle the demon.

As he had expected the large one was in fact in the room but he hadn't expected the sight of the second one. It had been the ghost like girl. Yet she seemed paler, frailer. Not any meat on her bones a all. She wouldn’t make a good meal no matter how anyone cooked her. She was of little interest to him, but the man he was much more interesting at least as far as a predatory eating perspective. Perhaps the girl would have been a little more interesting to Jack if he had been in his proper mind of curiosity concerning individuals that were particularly talented with magic, but unfortunately this was just not the case. At least for the moment anyways. The man charged at him, much like the bull whose muscular structure the man seemed to hold similarities with. The charge however fell short. [ Average strength vs Abnormal]. Belmont did cause him to slide backwards on the floor a few steps, but it did not manage to actually knock the demonic lord off his feet. He gripped the human on the shoulders and then tossed him back into the room using his superior strength to his advantage. The fleshy one had impressive strength in comparison to the rest of his race. But it wasn’t much of a match for the demons, at least those that he had encountered in the acrid and dry places of hell. His eyes moved down once again to the little girl. If this was the way it was going to continue then it would be over in moments. He wasn’t even going to have to use that much strength in dispatching his foe.

The demon and Belmont were struggling and she was ordered to run. But the only way out of here was either through the roof, or around them and through the door. And she was too exhausted to run. So instead she began to summon the power of magic around herself and Belmont. Three spells went off with three sparse words, spoken through a hoarse voice, hurt from hours of screaming in this torture room. There were metal instruments for such torture all around the room. Some sharp, some dull, other covered in her blood, others covers in the blood of others. Vials of the red liquid lay upon a shelf neatly labeled. They would use the blood to fuel their own magic. Making it stronger. This place needed to be destroyed just so that no one else could gain the knowledge of how to use the blood of mages to power your own magic. It would cause a lot of problems. "We" (Spell 1) "shall" (Spell 2) "Survive" (Spell 3).

The first spell would start to turn the dragon demon cold, very cold (Freezing blood DMG = Ascended), it was aimed at only his body, trying to freeze his lizard like blood.
The Second spell would start to try and contain the demon in physical bind as vines shot out of the flooring to entwine around the demon intent upon bringing him to heel and keeping him from moving. (BND4)
The Third and final spell would start to summon the void so that she could warp herself and Belmont out of there.

Freezing the blood (DMG2) Arctic Cold
Effect: The blood of the target begins to slowly crystallize with ice as their body starts to turn blue from the internal body temperature dropping to below freezing.
DMG - INT+1

Vines of Capture (BND4) Earth
Effect: Vines ripe from the ground and begin to encircle the target's body, Five of them total. One of which acts as a gag over the mouth.
BND - Fierce

The demon was strong, impossibly strong. More than anything that Belmont had ever encountered before. But it didn’t much phase him, even as Belmont was tossed backwards, he tucked himself into a roll falling and then landing crouched staring up at the demon thinking about just what his next movement was going to be. Maya hadn’t ran, she’d just stood there, was it that her body was too frail to run anywhere? Perhaps. He drew his sword and jammed it into the ground.

As he did so spiked sword blades would rise out of the ground. Each just as sharp as his own sword just looking to impale demonic flesh. But as he did so he noticed that things in the room began to change. Maya’s magical power. Now there were men and women among the Remnants who bent the power of magic to their wills.. The Remnants did mostly focus upon the use of physical weapons and armour to destroy the enemies of man. But this was something entirely different, this was the potential of a child trying o take on a demon that even Belmont hadn’t even managed to move much with all his strength. This was a child attempting to protect him from the demon. Was such a thing even truly possible? Or even truly right? Her magic was powerful, it burned in his gave senses with a similar intensity to the demon. Whether that was a sign of what was inherit within her magical powes he could not tell. Perhaps the foul nature of this place twisted the nature of the ether in this enclosed area.

The man was an annoyance, if nothing else a strong annoyance. Not strong enough to knock him over but strong enough to take a hit and roll with it. That much was impressive. He had at least expected broken bones or at least a broken will to fight. And yet he continued to come at him. Jack;s eyes looked over at the little girl, she began to chant. Jack’s mastery over magic however was great, and the moment he detected that first sylible striking up the power of magic in the area, he began his own. His mastery allowed him to reduce the amount of time taken for his magic channelling exponentially. Up till the point that with most spells he had perfected required virtually no chanting whatsoever. [Magic Mastery: Perfected]. Jack raised up his hand and spoke a single word of power. “ Rise”.A wall of flames shot up in front and around of him. [ Brennvogal]. Unfortunately his wall of flames was not quick enough to stop her ice spell, which chilled his blood, causing him great pain. Rage sparked within him. The flaming wall seeming to grow more and more intense as his anger and madness grew. The wall of fire would stop the magic reaching the flooring at him however, leaving him free to move. [ Density = INT Ascended +1, density blocks magic from Maya > Floor@ Jack) . The final spell would take effect, but beyond the wall of fire Jack would not be able to see that Maya and Belmont had disappeared. He transformed into his dragon form. Breaking through the wood of the house, the size of him being too much for the building to contain. It was upon hearing the screams of locals at seeing a dragon that he realised he had blown his cover.

He climbed out of the ruined building and onto the streets. Letting out a tremendous roar as he breathed fire reducing several locals to ashes, as well as igniting a few buildings. [ Flames of Lazarus]. Upon creating that sufficient distraction, he took to the skies and flew off as quick as he could, seeking cloud cover.

Those first two spells were just diversion for the void spell. She reached out and grabbed Belmont's arm and they were transported to a place far enough away that Belmont could actually see the Dragon shooting through the roof and flying away. The effect of the void magic on those who had not much experience with it was usually a feeling of sickness and most likely wretching as the realty of the person was distorted and they were warped to a new location. Maya showed no such effects, but she did wobble from the use of so much power. Her emaciated body starting to break down with the use of so much power at once. But she had saved them both in the end and now she sunk to the ground.

Her body curled into the fetal position as she started to sob. She was so weak, that even the sobs were little more than sob intakes of breath. Her breathing labored, she trembled and shook with everything that had happened. Her father had used his power to heal others. That was what she had wanted. Not to use it for attacks and destruction. "I'm sorry Belmont. I" she hiccuped and her eyes began to close again, the drug still in her system. "wanted to make sure" her voice was slowing down and getting weaker with her tiredness. "you were safe. I only wanted to be like..." her breath pushed from her in a soft whoosh "my father" as she passed out from the strain, the stress, and the drugs still in her little system.

Her father had healed him and the others of his unit after their battle with the demons. Had offered him sanctuary in his own home as Belmont while had healed. That had brought the demons to their village and all of this had happened from that. But today was her birthday, and she was finally free. After three years, she was finally free. A small stuffed bunny plopped down near Belmont. It was the same one, her mother had given her that fateful night. It had come with them in the void somehow. One would never know how, as the limp body of the girl was currently unable to disclose her secrets.
