were things, people before the madnes. before the hunger. Before the pride. That much Jack already knew, they were however just faint images, things that did not mean much to him. All that mattered to him now was survival. Survival and power. As a dragon one had to think it was quite obvious what wsas on Jacks mind at any one given time. But things were far more complex than that. Whilst Jack's existance did inhabit part of his form. it did not make him everything that he was. What made him what he was existed beyond that form. Beyond that shape. It had been something that he had been trying to drum into Iskra for the longest time. RIght up till his death however she hadn;t really understood. But he thought back then that perhaps part of her did. Thats why she hadn't killed him. Not that anymore. Nothing that had mattered back then now mattered to him. It was just a game of things that he cared about. Food. Getting to live to the next meal. And for a dragon that wasnt really something that you could consider difficult. There wern't many things that could take out a dragon.S pirits were among those things. But then, Jack was one of those. Even if he didn't know it.

The next thing that he would do on this day was simply going to be exploring. This place was new to him. Orr at least nnew to him in his curent form. He hadn't seen it, not through these eyes. Not yet. But then he hadn't ever seen it as he did now flying high above the ground, looking down on things as they were. So small. SO tiny. So insignificant.

Flying high above the things below. Little occured to him in this matter of life and deathl He wasnt hungry at the moment, merely curious. He saw below a city, he himself stayed above the clouds using their cover to mask his watchings. There wasn't really much to see in this palce bar the builings. He oculd see below the little dots that wre his prey, like ants scuttling in and out of the structures that meant little to him and his power. He knew that i he dived down right now then he would able to feast upon them fully until he was sleep. Sleep normally came after th food. He understood that connection at least. But there was something in it. A waryness. The soil here spoke to him, it told him of danger.Danger that lay below. Even enough ants with enough stings could overcome the largest of predators. And this was what he had to be wary of. For there were many prey here. Many ants. And some of them would be soldiers. His dragon form, his power was great for things in which keeping silent didn't come into play. And that was the majority of the time. But in this world he had found somehting strange. UNlike in the acrid place. These ants actually cared for one anothers existance. They would actually risk themselves and work together.

In the acrid place the ants hadn't been like that. The prey had stood alone. And whilst individually they had been far more of a challennge than the ones that lived here. He found that these ones made up for that difference in sheer number. And that made all the point to him. He was going to have to think of something that would allow him to feed when hungry that didn't involve risking these things outnumbering him. The only answer was to come down and change things for himself. Change himself into his smaller shape. It was more confined and did not come with the advantages that he could be afforded by his scales in the dragon form. The only troub le with that however was that he had came out of the acrid place in that form and had still been attacked by the one with steel skin, which meant that these creatures were far more tricky than one would have thought. They had some basic sense of intellect. So that laid down a question of just what he was going to do. There was the possibility that like last time he had fed the creatures would begin to worship him and fo whatever reason want to be eaten. however he ffound that this was going to be unlikely. Most creatures did not wish to be fevoured. And eating them he imagined was no pleasant walk in the part for them.

So there was but one answer he could sum up. He was going to have to use magic in some way to trick them. To make them think that he was one of them. This would be no small task. After all his magic had its limitations. Not that he would like to admit thusly. Its limitations were far more progressiv than most. However, they did come to an end at one point or another. And he was not going to leave himself completely defenseless in a town of unknowns. He found a landing zone close to the buildings. But far away enough that they would not notice his movement. Or if they had, they wouldd not suspect him of having transformed. Most poeple thought that dragons didn't really exist, even if it had thrown them a bone of lets go kill ourselves a dragon. When they found naught they would simply think that it had been the guardsman having to much ale. So Jack landed, the trees groaning under the pressure of his wings and size. He conndensed his power into a smaller form. Taking on a humanoid shape with skin. Scales and a clwered armm remained under the rags of what humans considered clothes. He would need to find himself a disguise. Something to cover and hide the majority of his form so that his magic could be focused on the areas that required the illusion.

Finding and killing a pilgrim to this city it appeared was not difficult. They seemed to flock in numbers. So all he had to do was speak into ones mind, the humans seemed to think for some reason that because a being could speak into their heads it must be a god. Was he a god? Perhaps. But he had no concept or want of worship beyond the ease of prey it brought him. Murder was swift. Hiding the body and then wrapping the large brown cloak and robe around himself. It was chunky and itchy. But it would do for enough cover till night fall. When night fell the magic would be leess required. Less neccisary. But he still needed some of it. So he joined the cue of other pilgrims and moved into the city of Mare Maris. What awaited within. Even he couldd not have guessed.

Walking among his prey was strange but the thoughts of it being that way were extinguished by his thoughts on keeping up the guise of being one of them. Living behind the veil so to speak he kept up the illusion, the enchantment that kept his more bestial features from sending them into a wild panic. There was something in this city though that he didn’t like. Something that reminded him of those winged burned men who wielded the light that had burned. The his scales could not defend against. Gritting teeth against the thought of it. But a wild grin appearing as he thought of just how good they had tasted. Perhaps he would meet more of them here, perhaps he would be able to taste of their flesh after a good battle. Yes that would be most satisfying. However he was not willing to risk himself at this point by diving head long into the madness or the hunger, no matter how easy it may have seemed at the time.

He bent down and touched the soil. It was speaking to him here, speaking of memories of feet that had trodden long upon it. The soil here had memory. Memory that he ground between his fingers. There were things that remained familiar in this place. A bump to his back made him want to turn and growl at the offender. But he tasked himself. Reminding himself that it was unlikely that the prey would do this. After all they were passive creatures.
