The Darkest Evening of the Year Empty
PostSubject: The Darkest Evening of the Year   The Darkest Evening of the Year EmptySat Oct 15, 2011 10:29 pm

The night fell anew across the woods, already hot, wet, and dark. The sun seemed to retreat from this area faster than the others, like a woman departing a bad neighborhood. Owls and frogs and the low mourn of great, demonic wolves floated up as the daylight departed and was replaced with the moon and her consort of stars.

Below the trees that blotted out the sky like so many coffin lids, a rather repugnant looking biped drew near the edge of a larger pond that laced the territory of Diabolus Lake. The demon carried a massive nose ring in its piggish snout. This and a large, rusted, steel railroad tie were its only metal adornments other than the poorly cured furs that hung about its frame, crudely stitched together and weakly guarding his modesty. Not that he seemed to need clothes much. His muscular frame was obscured by its own little dark forest of hair. A stripe extended down his back, not unlike a skunk's, and he swatted idly at the carrion flies that gathered around. The rather threatening quills that comprised his mane rattled lightly as he knelt down on one hoof to scoop some water up, a wart-covered tongue extending to lap up the muddy refreshment as his small, red eyes darted to and fro, full of suspicion for the trees and the sounds all around.

Normally, such a monster wouldn't have much to fear from the dark woods around him. After all, just one of his quills was as long as the average man was tall, and his tresses only extended down to his rather broad shoulders. Even then, the smell wafting from the general direction of his extended rear-end might have frightened off all but the most vile of his peers.

But as a sudden weight hit his lower back like a pre-Dawn freight carrier and his lower body went numb with a bone-crushing bite that sent a sickening crack echoing through the forest like its own kind of scream, his alertness seemed justified. Indeed, there were few smells that would bother Iskra, the mystic leucrotta, and tonight her training left her particularly hungry.

In such a position, there wasn't much the other oni could do as she began to hungrily eat his steaming entrails out of his back. He lost complete control of his lower body, and the scene was nothing but filth and blood as he used the strength left in his upper body to make a massive swing at the smaller monster tearing at him. She caught the tie in her teeth and, snarling, bit down.

There might have been a tug-of-war, but after what seemed like an eternity, the light began to fade from his beady, red eyes, replaced with a hostile sort of resignation. The club slipped from the defeated oni's grip, and Iskra didn't wait for that life to completely fade before she began tearing at his chest, laughing in the haunting way hyenas do at the prospect of food, eager to get at his heart.

Seraphina sighed as she made her way out of the Hell and glanced around. She had just left Jonah and was going to be taking about a week to get as strong as she could before handling the gauntlet. So as to keep the half of Jack's forces that were hers according to Jonah. She was to be his steward until he returned. But she and Jonah seemed to doubt his return, and for that Sera also doubted. She had given him everything and he had ran off on his own. Tears misted her eyes as she kept an eye for anything going to attack her. It hurt and this was the first time she had allowed herself to cry. It felt like she was dead inside, but Jack had left her part of himself.

His army and holdings until his return. Although half went to Iskra. Perhaps she should find that Oni and speak to her and try to offer a truce of some sort. That way she could concentrate on getting stronger to pass the gauntlet. To keep the half of the army that Jack had wanted to keep for his return. Hope won through and she looked up. He would return. He could not just leave her. The fates would be cruel to do that. Jonah had told her most of what was going on. (She has not received the note). Jonah had given her no more than two weeks to return to take on the gauntlet. So she had better make use of that time wisely.

At this time she heard the strange noises and jumped, her wings folding tight to her it sounded like someone was on the hunt.

The piggish, skunkish, porcupinish monster never seemed to die. In fact, he just slumped, his eyes opened and glazed as the smaller carnivore cheerily ripped out his insides, laughing all the while her implacable predatory nature.

She was shoulders-deep in the pig's abdominal cavity when a certain sound came to her attention.

Suddenly alert at the idea of anyone coming to steal all or a portion of her kill -and it was a very common thing with the noisy way that hyenas such as herself ate- she lifted her head, trying to discern a scent above the hellishly strong stench about her.

Her white coat was almost completely tainted with the red of blood and darker blotches of other bodily substances as she came ot realize what the smell was.

It was the angel from before. Jack's angel.

With a grin, the beast thought to go greet the little kami. She clasped the leg of her kill firmly between her jaws, and began to drag the mangled corpse towards the general direction that she heard the flutter. After all, she couldn't just leave all of that meat there. The scent of blood would already draw scavenger demons within the hour. The last thing she needed was for her hard-earned kill to disappear. Besides, she thought without considering the kami's species, she might be hungry, and if she belonged to Jack, then she was, by extension, in Iskra's clan. As the matriarch, it was important that her clanmembers be properly nourished, and she would share her stinky, grotesque kill with the cheer and insistence of a grandmother giving cake to her progeny.

The Darkest Evening of the Year Empty

After the eerie death sounds and the sounds of someone eating and crunching through bones, Sera began to move away from the area in hopes whatever was eating would not notice her trying to slowly and quietly flee. Then a smell hit her and she wretched into one of the shrubs around the dense forest. The smell of feces and gore was enough to make her sick. When she finished she saw something dragging a dead Oni towards her. She held her nose for moment and let herself watch the white hyena approaching. Had Jack and Jonah not both told her that a white hyena was one of Iskra's forms? This must be the woman that had tried to breed her the last time they had met. As the female Oni approached she dropped her hand from her nose and tried for a smile, but ended up kinda more of a half wince half smile. "Greetings, my lady. I hope this evening finds you well" She was nervous since the last time they had been together, had ended up rather bad. But this woman was the one that was more powerful that Jack, as well as now held the power of half of Jack's Army. So it was best to proceed with caution.
