Afternoon Delight Empty
PostSubject: Afternoon Delight   Afternoon Delight EmptyMon Jun 06, 2011 6:39 pm

I had timed it nearly perfectly. The sun was beginning to rise across the water as I made my daily flight down to Terra. My speed had begun to increase since I made these trips more frequently than I had intended. As per usual of late, my body would twist through clouds before dipping straight towards the water. Pulling up at the last possible moment every day was bringing me closer and closer to the water each time. Just like yesterday, my direction would be north, towards that coastal region. The land walker with the silver hair had been rather interesting, and I hoped to find more people like him to learn from. The cultures and lifestyle of these people were stranger than what I had found, and left me wanting more knowledge.

Afternoon Delight Empty
PostSubject: Re: Afternoon Delight   Afternoon Delight EmptyMon Jun 06, 2011 7:09 pm

It was shaping up to be another gloriously sunny day along the sandy beachfront just beyond Meloli's front door. As per usual, she rose and dressed with the sun. Breakfast was prepared, cleaned up after, and the rest of her morning chores had been seen to with the efficiency only displayed by a young woman who had better things to get to. She was ready to enjoy this day off from her studies to the fullest, though she planned to do almost nothing for the entire time. Laying out her beach blanket, the young woman struggles a moment with the sea breeze as it tries to capture the thin fabric and tear it from her fingers. Once she wins her battle with the wind she is free to slip her short pants down her shapely legs and remove the white linen cover shirt. There wasn't much point in laying on her blanket with anything more than her string and triangle shaped fabric swimsuit. The sun could not kiss her skin and maintain her healthy bronze glow if she kept herself mostly covered all the time. Using the discarded clothing as a pillow of sorts, she rests her head on the wadded up fabrics, closed her eyes, and began to bask in the glory of the morning. Having spent a good deal of time in the sun already this season, her honey brown hair had begun to lighten in spots, giving it the look of blonde streaks mixed in with the deeper chestnut hues.

PostSubject: Re: Afternoon Delight   Afternoon Delight EmptyMon Jun 06, 2011 7:19 pm

A light tilt would occur before my arm moved into the side of my cloak to grab a piece of the bread that had been crafted by this morning’s artisans. Tossing it up into the air, I would flip around, allowing it to free fall for a moment before catching it in my mouth. The soft breeze was rather cooling, and I loved the view of the sun across the water as my body neared the coast line. To those who only saw things up close, I would probably look like some sort of flying creature instead of a humanoid figure. Then again, the white and blue that I wore probably wouldn’t really help seeing me much. Speaking of that, I should probably invest in the attire of this realm to better fit in while I am down here. When I had first met that silver haired void user, he told me that I looked like a priest. If they were highly religious, the last thing I wanted to do was appear to be one of their priestly figured. A confrontation of religious beliefs was not on my to-do list for today, or any day for that matter. Shaking the thought off, I would dip down to allow my arms to casually glide through the surface water while my body headed directly towards the sandy beaches. It was a beautiful day to go exploring, and exploring I shall be going!

PostSubject: Re: Afternoon Delight   Afternoon Delight EmptyMon Jun 06, 2011 7:34 pm

Laying there on the warm beack with her eyes closed was lulling Meloli back into the realm of dreams far too easily so she decided to prop herself up on her elbows and gaze out over the pristine waters. Movement in the sky caught her attention but she immediately dismissed it as some form of aerial animal. Her gaze sweeps over the horizon a few more times, looking for anything interesting enough to keep her awake until the drowsiness releases its hold. Nothing seems to be quite what she needs to one side of the horizon... but as her attention drifts back toward the other side she notices the midair movement again. This time it did not look like any flying creature she had ever seen, a fact that automatically made it interesting enough to watch more closely, and after witnessing a move far too agile and acrobatic for some clunky old bird to handle, she was determined to watch the unidentified flying thingy until she could figure out just exactly what it was.

PostSubject: Re: Afternoon Delight   Afternoon Delight EmptyMon Jun 06, 2011 7:45 pm

The water wasn’t that cold, a note that I had to remember. It seemed like the closer to shore I would get, the warmer the water would be. I guess the shallower it was, the easier it was to heat up or something like that. Twirling around, I would do what seemed ike a halfway barrel roll to bring my back to the water while looking up at the bright blue sky. It really was a beautiful day, regardless of what your personal outlook on life was. Getting closer to the shores, I would complete the roll to bring my face towards the sandy surface that seemed to slide out of the blue water. I had been looking forward to today’s work, and could feel the little notepad bouncing against my body as it was held onto my belt. Thankfully, the twine that had been used was pretty strong, allowing me to not worry about the midflight maneuvering that I had become accustomed to doing. The air down here was perfect to fly in, and the spiritual pressure was alleviated, unlike in the spirit realm. To be honest, I was comfortable down here while I was doing my research. Nearing the beach, I would not slow down, but instead end up flipping forward to plant my feet a few inches deep in the sand. I hadn’t really paid attention to see if anyone was there or not, I just wanted to get these boots off and play in the sand for a bit before getting to work.

PostSubject: Re: Afternoon Delight   Afternoon Delight EmptyMon Jun 06, 2011 8:17 pm

Meloli kept watching the flying animal, and repeatedly argued with her eyes that it had to be an animal despite however much it may appear to be humanoid in form. She would not allow herself to believe it was a person flying that high or doing those tricks, but as the hum... no, animal soared closer and closer to where she waited on the shore, the young woman was quickly running out of arguments against what her eyes kept insisting. By the time it, more accurately he, flipped forward and dug two very person looking feet... well boots but what kind of self respecting animal would wear boots (or such vivid blue and white robes for that matter) so it had to have feet under them... into the sand to end his flight, Meloli was all out of logical arguments and well on her way to believing that she just saw a man fly through the air with more grace and agility than the seagulls she had been watching for years. Since the flying man had not seemed to notice her yet, the woman wondered if she should grab her things and make a dash for the safety and sanity of her home just beyond the dunes. Of course if she moved he might notice her and there was no way she could outrun him should he choose to fly. Instead she remained frozen in place, mostly nude body (the important parts were covered, thankfully) lounging tensely on the blanket, upper torso propped on slightly trembling elbows and stared in disbelief.

My boots would slide, and for a moment I would stay completely still while listening to the sounds of the waves behind me. My feet would feel like they were standing on some sort of ice, in the way that they didn’t really stand still but lightly slid around. Standing up, I would stretch and let out a light yawn. I had slept rather harshly last night, and my muscles were a little tense from the flightdown, but I wouldn’t let that ruin my great mood. The sun was out, it was a clear day, and the water was warm. Taking a look out across the area, I would scan for life, when my eyes would stop. A single being caught my attention. I had never seen anyone dressed like that before. Was it a female? I had never seen a female from this plane of existence. I would stand there while our two awkward gazes met. I didn’t hear anything from her, and I wasn’t about to say anything back. Had she seen me flying? She might think I was some sort of demon. Great.. nice first impression there Ace.

Afternoon Delight Empty
PostSubject: Re: Afternoon Delight   Afternoon Delight EmptyMon Jun 06, 2011 8:42 pm

The silent mantra of 'don't look this way, there's no one here to see' did not seem to work so well as the flying man's gaze not only turned her way but stopped and stayed on her barely dressed form. This new development sets of a whole fresh deluge of paranoia and worry in her young, supposed to be carefree, mind. Should she greet it- no, him? Would he understand her greeting if she did? Would engaging it-him in conversation be taken as a sign of aggression? He didn't look dangerous, he looked too pretty to be dangerous. Of course her father had always taught her that many of the most poisonous plants and small jungle animals were also the most beautiful. Great so now should she assume it better to follow the laws of nature or the laws of human instinct? Assume he is good until proven wrong or run like hell and pray he won't follow? Since sitting here staring at him like some thick in the head uber groupie is not the best idea, Meloli decides to throw caution to the wind and pray her guts weren't taking the day off. "Umm... hi." She speaks hesitantly, with a tiny hitch of fear in her otherwise satin voice.

Afternoon Delight Empty
PostSubject: Re: Afternoon Delight   Afternoon Delight EmptyMon Jun 06, 2011 8:49 pm

It was strange standing here and staring at what appeared to be a lightly dressed woman. Was she in normal attire for this region, or was it some form or beach ritual that I had interrupted. I was unsure of how to completely proceed with this. First contact with many of them usually came with me on foot and blending in, not right after I dropped in for the day. It would be more difficult to keep my secrets hidden now that she had seen me come in through these means. From the look of it, I figured she had never seen anyone fly before. That gave me a bit of caution even though I wasn’t all too worried. A few moments were sent flying by before she said something to me. Was it a greeting? She said hi. I was sure she said that. She could at least speak, that was a good sign. So far so good, and there was no hostility at all. She didn’t smell like a demon, and that gave me a little bit of hope.
“Hiya!”
I would be bright and cheerful about it. May as well not worry about something so trivial as a greeting. The best way to go forward was with an open mind, and that was something I could do. After all, she may be really smart or something, or have an expertise in artifacts that can be helpful in my research. Both of my arms would fly back and cross behind my head while I stood there with my feet in the sand.

The urge to keep looking at him, blinking in shock after his returned greeting, was almost too much to fight. Of course it would be rude to do so and Meloli was many things but rude had never made the list. Allowing her body to relax, so she could change positions and work out the kinks and cramps her frozen state had caused, she sat up on her blanket with her knees bent in the air and placed her arms across them to try and hide her exposed flesh. It didn't matter if the important stuff was safely hidden, she felt naked all of a sudden and wanted to remedy that before engaging further in conversation. Figuring there was nothing left to lose, since he probably thought her a fool already, the young woman put on her best and brightest smile before attempting further interaction. "You picked a gorgeous day to visit the beach. How was your flight, it appeared quite pleasant from where I sat." Maybe he would think her cosmopolitan if she acted like flying men dropped in on her two or three times a week... of course she was already trying her best to forget how she must have looked to him when he first landed.

I would relax and bring my feet upwards. The motion would be made rather casually now that she had confirmed seeing me fly. No reason why I couldn’t relax as well now. My legs would cross in front of me, leaving me sitting in a floating position a few feet off the ground. I pulled my hands down and rested them in my lap rather casually. The flight down here had been rather relaxing, and from the moment I entered this physical realm, quite enjoyable. I wondered if she could fly since she was rather casual about asking of it.
“The air this fine morning is clean and crisp, and the water is warm. Every time I come down here is a good time. You do have quite a beautiful beach here. Do you come here often? I bet you have a great view of the sunrise”

She refused to let her eyes bug out of their sockets when he reclines upon the very air as he speaks. She would appear calm and collected even if it killed her to do so, and she would run home as soon as he left to record every second of this encounter in her journal. Gazing out over the beach with a tender smile upon her face, she nods. "Yes, this beach is my favorite place in the whole world." She didn't have to mention that it was pretty much the only place she had ever really been. "I come here as often as my studies and chores allow and always make sure to enjoy at least a few moments of sunrise every morning. They are exquisite each and every day, I don't think I will ever tire of their beauty." She was lucky he started off with a topic she could relate to. Had he asked about her flying experiences she would have responded much like a dog would should one ask him how his last year of studied had gone. "My name is Meloli, by the way. It is a pleasure to meet you, Sir..." She let her voice trail off in the hopes that he would be comfortable enough to supply his own name in exchange for hers.

“Ashurei. I guess you could say I’m not really from around here.. “ Then again, I wasn’t actually from this entire plane of existence. The physical realm was separated by a long distance of spacial void that kept our realms apart. I wondered if their physical bodies could survive in ours, where there wasn’t really a physical realm. Maybe I would have to bring one of them back with me one day. That may get me killed though, figuring this was the forbidden land.
“I’m glad you get to enjoy the sunrise every day. That must be nice. I’ve missed it a few times, but moving with it is always enjoyable. It must be nice to live in such a nice place. Why do you study? Is it hard? What do you learn?”
I felt bad for asking all of these questions, but I was a naturally curious being and it was hard for me to not want to learn as much as possible when given the chance. She seemed nice, and if she wasn’t going to be hostile towards me, there would be no reason for me to really be hostile or defensive towards her.

PostSubject: Re: Afternoon Delight   Afternoon Delight EmptyMon Jun 06, 2011 9:42 pm

After rolling his name around on her tongue for a while, just until he stopped speaking and expected her to take another turn at it, Meloli decided that she liked this Ashurei. He was beautiful to look at, enjoyable so far to talk to, and he didn't appear to want to harm her or steal her womanly virtues. He seemed like a decent and kind man, one she was beginning to enjoy talking to... especially now that he fired off questions about her most favorite subject in the whole world. Her legs straightened in front of her, arms began to move as soon as she opened her mouth to speak, and her body was once again open to his view. It was an obvious sign that she trusted him, at least for the moment. "I study because until the right man comes home to claim me as his wife and we settle down to make lots of babies, I have to find something to do to occupy my time. Sometimes it can be hard, especially in my area of research, but I love the challenge. Easy is boring. I am currently studying all I can about ancient relics and artifacts so that I can prove myself worthy of working in the field someday. I have been treasure hunting since I was a kid, had my first find at 4 years old, though I've never found anything exceptionally rare or valuable, mostly mundane stuff like tools and basic objects. But I learn a lot from the mundane, even today most people don't have actual treasures, what we use day in and day out are the most important things." Toward the end of her explanation it would probably sound like she was trying to convince him of the importance behind studying the boring objects, as if she's had to convince others of the same thing in the past.

I would watch her spread out a bit, giving me go that her guard had lowered. Relaxing a bit, I would listen to her explanation of studying ancient relics. That gave had answered one of my most important questions: the same thing happened down here. Their entire civilization, for the most part, had been destroyed, and their memories were lost before the dawn. A few of us had come to call it the second age, since that made more sense than the dawn. I was an explorer myself, and had come down here to try and find an explanation for what had happened so that I may be able to learn about the past. This could help us discover what happened to my own realm, and the massive amount of destruction that had occurred there.
“That is a fantastic profession to desire. I, myself am a research explorer. That’s why I came down to this realm in the first place. Both of our realms show signs of massive destruction, and relics from a lost time. I am hoping to find answers about our destruction down here.”

"Realm?" Meloli leaned forward, as if a few inches closer to him would make his words suddenly make sense. "Did you say there was another realm that suffered the same unknown fate as this world?" Wondering if she would wake up a few minutes from now and discover this was merely some fevered dream brought on by falling asleep under the heat of the sun, the young woman couldn't see any harm in trying to press for more information. If it was simply a dream she could just shrug it all way upon waking, but if not she could possibly learn something from this strange visitor or they could find a way to help each other. "What is it like there, your realm? What kind of relics do you find in your explorations?" She was really hoping this wasn't a dream, though she was not going to reach up and pinch herself right in front of him to test it. No matter what it may or may not be, this man and his talk of two realms both with relics had the adventurer within her hooked.

Had she not heard me the first time? I could fly, I had come from the sky, and I was pretty sure my clothes obviously didn’t fit in. what other realm could there be besides the three of ours. I had to think about how to explain it for a moment, but I figured it would be better to just show her. Dropping my legs, I would stride over to her before extending a hand down. I had no intention of taking her into the spirit realm, but allowing her a new view of her realm may assist her in research and aid her in some of her questions.
“Something happened that adversely effected all of our realms. I am trying to figure out what, since there are no traces of it there. While the middle of our realm is destroyed, the outskirts of it are nearly untouched, leaving me to believe that there was something there that was fought over. Once I came down here, I discovered that your realm, in many places, had been pieced together on top of the old one. So, let me show you a side of your realm that you’ve never seen…”

Afternoon Delight Empty
PostSubject: Re: Afternoon Delight   Afternoon Delight EmptyMon Jun 06, 2011 10:26 pm

As mentioned previously, Meloli is not rude by any means, she has been known to be foolish however. When a man offers his hand, especially if one can safely assume it is with the intention of helping a woman to her feet, then a woman is expected to take it as offered... and so the young woman willingly takes the stranger's hand as she rises from the blanketed sand. She listened to him as he spoke, but never imagined what the real purpose behind his outstretched hand had been. When he offered to show her a side of her realm she had never seen, the foolish girl was thinking they would take a walk around the area and he would point out some details of the ruins she had missed, or that he would share some wise insight into what she had been looking over, under, and around for years. That is why she failed to reach for her clothes, why it never occurred to her that she would need them to simply walk along the beach she called home. In her mind he had only been a man who could fly until he spoke of being from another realm, though she still wasn't sure if this other realm he mentioned was an alternate word for territory or village. It had not quite occurred to her that he truly meant 'not of this mortal world', no, that possibility would not become clear to her for some time.

Taking her hand, I would help her stand to her feet as best she could in the sand. My free hand would reach up to the clasp that was hooked to my jacket, freeing the cloak from it. The white and blue cloak would fall behind me, landing gently in the sand as I kept my eyes on her. I had not thought ahead about it, but I wanted to make sure I was in peak condition before carrying her. The last thing I wanted to do was drop her middle of the intended flight, so it may be in her best interest for me to make sure I was ready for it. With both arms slightly out, my muscles would quickly harden before me. The sand around us for a few yards would imprint from the pressure given off by the quick transformation before it subsided a moment later. I hoped it didn’t affect her that much. Turning to face the water, my arms would move out a little bit.
“hop on.”

This definitely had to be nothing more than a dream, an odd dream, one that feels far too real, but a dream nonetheless. She watches in stunned wonder as the man's body changes before her very eyes and then almost humiliates herself by letting out a laugh when tells her to 'hop on'. The woman who had been dreaming of adventure since she was old enough to toddle along the beach was actually hesitant to do as the man instructed, it didn't matter that she was once again trying to convince herself this was a fever induced illusion of fancy, she was still afraid of what might happen if she put herself in his arms. Then that part of her, buried deep within, the part that was fashioned from tempered steel, spoke up in a mocking tone. It teased the treasure hunter she'd envisioned herself becoming relentlessly until her body was moving forward and climbing half naked into the arms of a man that not only wasn't the one she had pledged herself to, but that was about to carry her through the very sky. Her ability to speak returned about the time she was settling herself in his grasp so what more could she say before this dream went from fancy to fully certifiable besides... "Please don't drop me."

I didn’t have to wait long. When I felt her on my back, my arms would clamp down, holding her into place. Turning my head to the left, I would ask if she were “ready?”. Not waiting for an answer, or wanting her to reconsider, my body would move directly vertical, leaving the ground and her home behind. The air was cool and crisp, with a light breeze to my front. Blonde hair would be sent flying in all directions before I spun around, floating about three hundred feet above the ground. Stopping there, I would let her gaze out across her home and the land surround it as far as she could see. It was a nice sight, but one that I had become accustomed to. I hoped that her trust in a complete stranger would allow her the enjoyment of seeing things, all things, from a different point of view. She was a researcher like me, just trying to figure things out. It may be in my best interest to have someone down here who can work when I am unable to be around. I can share my research, and teach her about my realm while learning about this realms past.
“so, do you like to defy gravity?”

Ready? He'd asked. Hell no, she'd thought, who could ever be ready to leave terra firma and take to the sky without so much as a second thought? Obviously he could, especially since he barely waited a heartbeat before rising into the air with her clinging at his back like a cat clinging to the rim of a bathtub. the cat wanted to avoid the water almost as much as she wanted to avoid slipping from his body and plummeting to her death. The higher he takes her above the ground, the cooler the air becomes against her exposed skin. By the time they reach the cruising altitude he deems fit, she is not only clinging to him for dear life but shivering against his back. Even though her body is not comfortable with this activity, mainly with the danger of it, her eyes are wide and openly scanning the world below. She could see her house, her mother's garden out back, the beach, and even the small crop of ruins down the way. It was like nothing she'd ever imagined, climbing a tree to get a bird's eye view had nothing on this. She was so caught up in the view that she was shivering a bit less against him and almost missed his question. "Do I like to what? What do you mean by that?" Since she was already up here, and his arms felt pretty secure at holding her to him, she would trust him enough to do almost anything... though if he made her lose her breakfast right in all that pretty hair of his, it would be his own fault.

PostSubject: Re: Afternoon Delight   Afternoon Delight EmptyMon Jun 06, 2011 11:27 pm

From what I understood, their people could not naturally fly. It was a shame, since flight was really the only way most of my kind ever traveled. We were always flying around even to do remedial tasks like move across a room. I had many questions for her, but this was only the first taste. “hold on.” My muscles would tighten around her to make sure she was secure before I moved upwards at full speed, taking her up to another level, close to five hundred feet above the ground. The lowest clouds would be within view on the horizon, and I turned to allow her a solid view of the sun over the water. Up here, there wasn’t really anything to hide behind. It was pure serenity, something that I often took for granted. I would watch the sun rise itself upward off the horizon, and enjoy every bit of it.
“Up here you can really see the past, and what effect it had on the entire realm as a whole. This kind of perspective can’t be gained by standing on top of a house or tower, you really have to see the whole picture. To do that you have to defy gravity..”

Hold on she did, even after her body began to shudder against his back from the next drop in temperature and the added chill of the wind. The view got even better the higher he took her, so much better that it quite literally took her breath away for a few seconds... or was that an exceptionally cold gust of wind? "I should have put my clothes back on..." She muttered through chattering teeth just as the view commanded her full attention. Meloli couldn't believe her puny mortal eyes as she gazed out over the landscape of her world. She could see the blending of ruins and modern settlements, her own land showing signs of the new built upon the old. Her house had been standing as is when her parents found it, but the house that had been Jin's was not, she could see now that it had been built within the foundation of a much larger structure that had stood before it. The low stone wall we'd always though enclosed the yard was really the exterior walls of the house. Oh! How had she never thought of that before? Then again, when they were treasure hunting together she never would have asked him to go back there. No treasure could ever be worth putting that pain back into his eyes. Turning her gaze down the beach, to the ruins she had recently begun to excavate by herself, she could see that they extended farther than she'd first assumed. there was another part of them hidden by the foliage. She was beginning to feel like she'd been missing the entire forest for the trees. Trying to commit everything to memory so she could map it all out later, she scanned everything within view. "This is simply amazing. Thank you for showing me, Ashurei."

Satisfied that she probably had enough to keep her busy for a few weeks, my hold on gravity would loosen. Staying straight vertical, our two bodies would drop at full speed. In mid air, my arms and grip would release, allowing my body to twist swiftly around and cradle my arms directly under her(without actually touching) while we fell towards the ground. Nearing about a fifty foot stomp, I would stop, allowing her to land in my arms while I casually and gently set her back on the ground, right where we had started. The air down here was much warmer than up there, and I bet she was probably a bit chilly since she really wasn’t wearing much of anything. I had hoped that she wouldn’t catch a cold because of my lack of forethought.
“so, do you still only believe in your realm?”

Despite her best efforts to prove otherwise, Meloli would turn into a little girl as they began to drop from the sky. Letting out a gasp at first that quickly became a squeal girly enough to make her want to cringe, she tried to hold on to the man's body but found that he was moving around her positioning her to where that much too difficult. She still trusted him, even as they seemed to free fall toward the hard unforgiving ground, if she hadn't then she would have fought him like a ferocious feline. When they finally came to a stop, before becoming pancakes in the sand, she would let out a heavy sigh. As her feet were returned to the familiar sand of her beach, there would be a few noticeable shudders running through her slim frame, not so much from chill anymore but from the adrenaline rush she'd just experienced. As he posed his question, the young woman runs her hands over the entire length of her body, checking to make sure everything is still in place and covered. When she is certain she is whole and unexposed she raises her tawny eyes to meet his gaze. "I believe that you are unlike any man I could ever find in this realm so that only leaves me to believe you are from another one entirely. You have convinced me, Ashurei."

I was glad that she had been convinced. While I was perfectly prepared to send a wall of lightning across the water in front of her, I found it in my best interest to not bring attention to myself in this realm. I was happy that she had come to believe me. Now, the difficult part would begin. Would others believe her, or call her a fanatic? I guess for her own sake, it would be best to let her decide her own course of action. She may chose differently from what I think.
“You know I am from way up there, so let me warn you. Others may find what you have done hard to believe, so it may be in your best interest to keep such things to yourself. I come through these parts on my way to the northern part of this watery country so that I can explore and research where people don’t like to travel. If you keep this our little secret, I can take you with me to new parts, and share my research with you as I find new things..”
I had never thought I would resort to bribery for something like this, but it might be better to keep this one safe from any possible harm that could come. After all, if she continued to come to this beach, I could swing by every week or so and say hi. She was now the second person in this realm that I have directly spoken to and made full contact with.

Meloli was way ahead of him on that point. She'd already decided that all of three people would be the only ones to ever hear about this little excursion. Her mother, father, and Jin. The three people she knew would never think her crazy or let harm come to her. As for the second part, the offer to take her to new places and share his research, she didn't see it as a bribe, and hopefully he wouldn't either after her offer of compromise. "I would like that. I will share my research as well, maybe comparing notes along the way will help us both in the long run." She didn't want to feel like she was taking advantage of his flight ability so maybe if her research could help him with his explorations of his own realm, they would be on more equal ground so to speak.

I was rather satisfied with how thingsh ad gone. I met someone new, took her for a flight, and learned that there are people down here that can be trusted. this would highly contradict the viewpoint of the silver one, who's outlook on life was that you could trust no one. He worked in an horably dishonorable way to get what he needed, and while I understood that, it would not ever be tolerated in my realm. We had no reason to do anything like that. Even up there, we rebuilt our civilization, and in my places are still rebuilding, ontop of the old one. For us to look at it, and not really care what happened really bothered me. I found it strange that not a single person in either realm really cared about figuring out what happened back then. There were a few issues that needed to be taken care of, and if I could figure out what happened, or who caused it, I may be able to unite my people under one banner. We were united, but we had no true leaders or method of orgainzation. By doing research down here, I was getting the base knowledge that I would need to approach that entire issue. Thankfully, the two people I had met, the void walker and this lady, had been rather helpful.

"There are ruins down the beach, have you been there? They look like they could be easily cleared."

He seemed to be alright with her offer of a more equal partnership, at least he didn't offer any words or expression to lead her to believe otherwise. Now that she was back on her safe little beach, she moves a step or two away from him to retrieve her discarded clothing and begins to dress herself over the bikini while responding about the ruins. "Yeah, I've only begun to search that location in the last few weeks. Most of what I've found so far are just simple tools and what are most likely utensils associated with what was probably the kitchens used back then. I have only gotten about halfway through one corner so far. I don't move as fast, just digging up stuff and tossing it into a pile, as I did when I was too young to know better. The careful extraction methods I use now are more time consuming but bring the relics from the ground in much better condition." Realizing she probably gave him way more information than he was looking for, Meloli chewed at her lip sheepishly as she fastened the waist of her shorts and smoothed the shirt down over them. "Would you like to explore them?"

I didn’t know what the time was, but I did know that I shouldn’t really be worried about any of that. Exploring some ruins did sound quite enjoyable at this point of time and I wanted to see what kind of techniques they used for uncovering relics and any item of historical value. It was a difficult process from what she had said, and if I could somehow assist in that I would. After all, it would be much more enjoyable to do this on a day like today than on one with less favorable weather. Accepting the invitation to explore with her, I joined her in getting clothes back on. The two sides of the cloak would clip to the collar on my jacket, allowing it to hang freely behind me.
“Did you want to take the easy way?”
Of course, I meant flying. I didn’t really walk much when I was down here, save for when I was with Dravec in the northern parts of this area. He had some interesting places to go to, and I enjoyed his company. He even noticed that I could fly without really paying too much attention to me. I guess I had been careless during that day, but it was all in the past now.

If she was going to escort him to the ruins, she would have to run up to the house for her tools. The original plan for the day was mostly planned around baking in the plentiful sunshine so her supplies had been left just outside the front door as they always were. Of course it was no sort of hardship for her to change her plans in favor of a bit of exploring, in fact she would love to have someone to do it with. She'd been on her own in her activities for so long that having someone to talk to other than herself while digging would be a welcome change. "Umm, sure, we can take the easy way there. Just let me grab my tools real quick and we'll be off." Without waiting for a response from the other realmly man, she dashes across the dunes toward the small house just beyond them. It would only take her a couple of minutes to grab the bucket full of items and be back on the more packed sand where she had left him. "Alright, I'm ready now." With more than just her bikini gracing her skin now, she hoped the short flight wouldn't chill her as much as the first one had.

I would watch her saunter off towards a building past the edge of the beach. Was that her home? Like everything else, it donned a different architecture than its foundation. They had really rebuilt a home in a place like that. I wondered what it would be like were we to have that issue. I mean, all of our homes were and structures inside the city were essentially built on top of the old ones, but we mimicked the style of them to integrate a smooth, fluid architectural style. They didn’t seem to do that here. Oh well, one more thing to add to my notes. With the young lady returning a few minutes later, I would hold my arms out for her to grab onto. “that was quick.” Taking note of the bucket, I figured it wouldn’t be a problem to fly with it as long as she held onto it. If she decided on that, I would pick her up and lift off, staying a few yards above the beach while we moved off toward the ruins.
“So, how long have you been exploring these ruins? I am curious to see what structural foundations they used to construct a building this close to the water.”

Climbing once again into his personal bubble, this time into his arms, Meloli would make sure she had a firm grip on her bucket of tools before they set off toward the ruins. This time wasn't as chilly or as unsettling as the first time, probably because he didn't get too high above the ground. If she wasn't careful a girl could get used to traveling like this. When he asked about the ruins, she nodded before turning her face to the side, so he would hear her better or maybe to make it actually feel like a normal conversation. (Cause girls have discussions everyday with flying men holding them in their arms) "I've only been digging down here for a few months, only on days off when the weather is nice, so I haven't gotten much done. I do know that in parts of the structure... that I personally believe was a single family home much like mine... the floor and foundation are still intact. The back room, which would be my parents' room in my house, is the farthest from the beach and the most protected from sea brought storms. There is still half of the floor in that area, though the wood is quickly succumbing to the elements."

Her answer was simple and to the point. A single family home that was like hers was what she was digging up. Was it completely submerged? Did it have stone or was it wood? I had many questions but I figured I would keep most of them to myself for later when I could observe the structure on my own. There had been little in the field of opportunity for me to look at their ancient architecture and compare it to our own. There was a religious center that I saw in the north that held a few familiar icons from the heavens. Was there a day when these people worshipped those from above? I wondered how they came into their faith and on what foundation they used to survive with it. So much work, and so little time to figure out the answers to my questions.
“at least you are getting some time to work.”
Approaching what looked to be the ruins, I would straighten my body out and lower to the ground, setting her lightly onto the sand about twenty feet from the edge of what appeared to be ruins. It was amazing that a structure could be built so close to the water and still survive all this time.

When they arrived at the ruins the first noticeable thing would be the low crumbling stone walls that made up the exterior portions. The wall facing the beach stood roughly three feet tall with stones, that had once been masonry bricks (cinder blocks), worn smooth by the decades of wind and rain. The side walls were a bit taller, but still not quite as tall as Meloli, probably just shy of five feet and were in much the same condition. The rear exterior wall stood at a height between the front and side ones and seemed to be the most recently destroyed. Some of the stones of this wall were still more jagged and rough than the other walls' smoothed ones. Leading him inside what would have been the interior of the front room and kitchen, she shows him a depression line in the sand. "This is where I think an interior wall used to be, to separate the kitchen I've been exploring on this side from what was probably the sitting room over here." Since she hadn't started digging in that area yet there was no way to prove if she was right, except her assumption that the straight depression line would account for the wood of the wall having rotted some time ago allowing the sand to sink. The side of the area where she had been exploring was much different from the untouched places. She'd dug down to where the floor should have been and even gone a little below to make sure no relics had been buried over the years of storms and wind. There were large boxes of weathered and rusted metal against the exterior walls and pieces of what could have been cabinets near the 'interior wall line' she had pointed out. These were the things too heavy, bulky, or unstable to move out so she simply dug and brushed away the sand and dirt from them before moving on to a new part of the room.

I would follow her to the edge of it before floating up and moving to where it would look like I was standing on one of the weak walls. I didn’t actually touch them, since they were probably not meant to hold any weight right now. The sand had moved in and pretty much taken over what had been a house. I watched her move and line out what seemed to be a wall. My gaze would shift across the sides of the ruins, wondering if there was anything I could help her with. Then again, she probably had a process that she followed and I didn’t want to risk ruining any of that. My hand would slide to the inside of my cloak before pulling out a small notebook. the leather binding would be flipped open, allowing me to scribble a few notes about the kind of materials used in the side walls, and the designs that encompassed them. It wasn't anything impressive to see, especially after time had taken its toll on them. Did this beautiful human girl really live in one of these? It was difficult for me to understand that someone could actually survive in this environment.

Once he speaks she looks up to him with an expression of wonder. Since she'd grown up and gotten into more structured treasure hunting and relic seeking, she'd never once heard a man in the same line of work utter anything about the former inhabitants of the places they explored. She always wondered, not only if they made it out safely, but about how they lived, how they loved, how they worked, and how they played. The questions in her mind never seemed to end and it warmed her heart to hear this strange man from another realm mirror one of her most frequent questions. "I hope so too. In all the places I've dug, I have yet to find any human remains. A few times I've seen animal bone unearthed, but never anything larger than a dog. I am afraid of how I will react if I ever do come across some."

I was happy to know that she had yet to find human remains. It was a shame that I was unable to assist her with clearing the sand in an easier way. Then again, my method would probably involve a wall or two getting torn down as well. I wasn’t really one to be light and delicate about cleaning out an area. This young girl fascinated me. She was studying something that didn’t really have any impact on the future of their people. Regardless of what findings she had with the previous era, the future would move on casually, based on the political ideology of those who are in charge. On the other hand, in my realm things were different. We moved forward as a whole, progressing as we needed for the good of all of our kind. We had no formal leader and nothing to really drive us into progress of any nature. If I could figure out what caused the destruction of the previous era, then I may be able to discover a way to unite all of my realm under one banner. That, was my true goal for being down here.
“It is amazing that someone like you is able to make discoveries. I am sure some of those things are rather heavy, and the danger in dealing with decayed structures probably has its own separate risks. You fascinate me Meloli. “

While he spoke, she bent down to kneel at the edge of where she had previously been digging and clearing to brush away a bit of sand that had looked to be concealing an artifact at first glance. Unfortunately the sand was only covering a bit of beach debris that had washed up or been blown inside the structure at some point. Picking the debris, which looked like a dried piece of seaweed, from the sand and flicking up over the exterior wall, she discarded the trash and continued to idly move the earth around with her hands. At first his words had caused her to stiffen every so slightly, in her experience anything good rarely followed comments containing the words 'someone like you' but she did not immediately interrupt the man, choosing instead to let him finish speaking so she could see just how deep he would dig his own grave. She almost felt bad when the rest of his words contained nothing but praise and compliments, to which she rewarded him a brilliant, blushing smile. "Thank you for saying that, Ashurei, it means a lot coming from one such as yourself. There is some danger and heavy lifting involved, but as you can see I try to take my time and be careful to avoid the dangers and the heavy stuff I rarely move myself. Once I finish with the entire structure I will call in a few favors among my colleagues and have them help me move those larger relics to a safe environment where they can be studied at great length."

I would continue to take notes while watching her curiously. For some reason, she had said something that I did not know existed. A facility where they studied ancient culture and stuff? That type of organization may have extra knowledge on the pre-dawn era that I seek. Making a note in my book about it, I would save that type of inquiry for a later date. While it was something that had my attention, it was best left for a time when she would be more comfortable speaking about such things. That kind fo facility would potentially hold a great wealth of knowledge that the other side may wish to take advantage of. I had to keep this knowledge secret at all costs. Thankfully, that wouldn't be difficult. I wondered if this girl had any idea the potential danger that a place like that could hold.

"So, others help you. Are there teams of people who do research like this? I apologize for asking so many questions, but I am ratehr fascinated by the work you do. I may have to come visit down here more often.."

Since they were still exchanging small talk and her hands were itching to do more than just idly sift at the sand, Meloli reaches for her bucket and draws out a small hand shovel. As she replies to the questions about teams of people doing this kind of research, she begins to dig at the edges of the already cleared area, essentially widening it another foot toward the interior of the structure. "Sure, there are basically three levels of us where I study. True students, like me, are just beginning to get into the professional side of everything. We do a lot of independent research, they consider what I do here as part of mine, and report our findings and theories to those on the next level above us. The real researchers are the middle group, they've done their independent studies and proven that they have what it takes to excel. They've put in the grunt work at low level sites like this one and have earned the right to participate in more interesting digs. They also do a lot more of the research concerning the artifacts themselves. Then the actual scientists are at the top, they're the ones who know all the best information and have spent the most time investigating the people that were here before us." She hoped to be recognized among them some day, if she didn't settle down and start a family first of course.

thankfully for me, there was nothing like that in the heavens. Down here, there were people who had put in lots of time and did research. If they were really good, then they had to have notes on all of it. if i were to get my hands on that, there was a huge chance that I might be able to figure things out without having to do half of the work. Hmm.. that would come later though. I would have more questions, and have to come back here more oftne.

While her hands continually work the sand and debris into the bucket by small shovelfuls, then sift through half a bucketful at a time to make sure no tiny relics were missed, she glances up to the man every so often and listens for his reaction to the information already given. For some reason she figured there would be another question, he seemed to be as interested in what she was talking about as she is so wanting to know more fit as a normal response. Shrugging her shoulders as she dumps the sifted sand from the bucket to start the process over again, she shakes her head a bit and smiles. "It can takes years to reach the highest levels, unless you're very lucky and unearth a rare artifact or discover something new about the people who were here before. As for getting in contact with them, that is a bit easier. Of course I am just a lowly student right now, only beginning to learn the ins and outs of the lifestyle, but the middle level people that I report to can contact the ones above them. I doubt anyone on the highest levels would have time for someone like me."

so, they wouldnt have time for someone like her? I wondered if I could fix that for her. What if I could get her something from my realm, which could be considered an even rarer commoditydown here since there wouldn't really be anything like it at all. I pondered the thought for a few moments before finally coming to a reasonable deduction and course of action. I wasn't willing to put my people at risk, so I would have to playm y cards right and act rather strategically on this if it were to go over the way I had intended it to.

"So.. Meloli.. you can get up there by discovering a rare artifact.. what if I brought you something from my realm that predates our current time? It would be unlike anything seen down here, and could help you in gaining ranks within the researching fields organization. I don't know what you call it exactly, but this might be beneficial for you."

It would alsb be beneficial for me to know someone who was deep in their upper ranks. I could easily get access to the artifacts and study them that way without much difficulty. Yep, this was the right way to go.
